The Sharpstown High School soccer teams received some help in preparing for the upcoming season from none other than the Houston Dynamo.

Dynamo Charities named the soccer program at Sharpstown High School a beneficiary for Every Save Counts, a Major League Soccer (MLS) national initiative to serve youth sports.

At the kickoff event held on April 27, Boniek Garcia, the Dynamo’s star Honduran midfielder, gave a speech to both the girls’ and boys’ teams, while Houston City Councilman Mike Laster spoke about the importance of academics. Afterwards, Garcia, Diesel the mascot, and Sharpstown students played a quick game together.

Members of the soccer team also received free tickets to the Dynamo game on May 2. For every save goalkeeper Tyler Deric made, $500 in soccer equipment was donated to the school. Deric ended up making two official saves, bringing the total donation to $1,000. The money will be used to purchase warm-up outfits, bags, jerseys, and shorts.
